Bill graduated from West Virginia University in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering and later earned his MBA in 1996 from Oklahoma State University. He started his career as a Petroleum Engineer at Amerada Hess in the early years of CO2 enhanced recovery projects in Seminole and Brownfield, Texas and later worked in the Gulf of Mexico. After this Bill worked as Operations Manager at Vintage Petroleum during multiple acquisitions within the Ventura and Bakersfield areas of California.
In 1998 he came to Denbury Resources and was an early and influential leader managing newly acquired assets in Mississippi, implementing new drilling and workover programs, and ultimately leading the installation of several CO2 enhanced recovery projects. During his time as Asset Manager, Denbury saw incredible growth in production, valuation, and employee headcount that required the start of many new systems and processes to properly manage the company.
After leaving Denbury, Bill deployed his engineering and management skills as Vice President at Wagner Oil in Fort Worth and also as Vice President at Matador Resources in Dallas where he worked within the Eagle Ford and Delaware Basin developments and was instrumental in the building of a 30 MMCFGD cryogenic gas plant in Loving County, Texas. Throughout his career, Bill has been involved in new venture management and by virtue of that understands the needs of a growing organization.
Bill and his wife Debbie live in Flower Mound, Texas and have two sons. He’s a career-long member of SPE and serves as a liaison to the DFW AADE Board by mentoring and working with the AADE Student Chapter at West Virginia University. Bill also serves on a working Board of Directors with Honor Flight DFW whose mission is dedicated to honoring our veterans for the sacrifices they have made by providing them with a trip to visit their memorials in Washington, D.C.
